3. Designed with travelling in mind, including Solarez Zerovoc plant-based non-flammable cleaner for tidying up after the repair

Product Description
The Solarez Polyester Pro Travel Surfboard Repair Kit is essentially a portable surfboard repair workshop designed for polyester boards.

If you're heading away on a proper surf trip with your own boards, this is the sort of kit that can save the holiday. Airline handling, reef, rocks and everyday knocks can all damage a board, and finding a professional repairer isn't always easy when you're travelling.

Rather than only giving you a tube of quick-setting resin for tiny dings, the Pro Travel Kit contains polyester resin, Fiberfil, lightweight filler, fibreglass cloth and a proper selection of repair tools. That gives you the materials to deal with anything from straightforward dings through to more involved repairs where damaged fibreglass needs replacing.

Solarez also includes its Zerovoc plant-based non-flammable cleaner, helping make the kit more practical as a travelling repair setup.

If you're going away for a week with one board, a small tube of Solarez might be enough. If you're heading on a longer surf trip, travelling with several boards or going somewhere remote, this complete kit makes considerably more sense.

Why Take A Repair Kit On A Surf Trip?
Travelling with surfboards can be brutal on them.

Even before you've surfed, your boards have potentially been through airports, baggage systems, taxis and roof racks. Once you arrive, you've then got reef, rocks and everyday knocks to worry about.

A little crack can sometimes be dealt with using a basic repair tube, but more substantial damage may need filler, fibreglass and resin before the board is properly usable again.

Having a comprehensive repair kit with you means you're much less dependent on finding a local repair shop, particularly if you're travelling somewhere remote.

Why Is This Better Than A Normal Tube Of Solarez?
A standard tube of Solarez is brilliant for quick repairs and is what we'd keep around for normal day-to-day dings.

The Pro Travel Kit is for when you want significantly more capability.

You've got different filling materials, proper fibreglass, polyester resin and the tools needed to cut, mix, apply and finish a repair.

For a small crack, the complete kit may be overkill. For a damaged rail, deeper ding or repair where the fibreglass itself needs rebuilding, having the extra materials becomes far more useful.

Polyester Boards Only
This is the polyester version of the Solarez Pro Travel Kit and should be matched to a compatible polyester surfboard construction.

If you're repairing an epoxy/EPS surfboard, use an appropriate epoxy-compatible repair product instead.

If you're unsure what your board is made from, we'd establish the construction before applying any repair resin. It's much easier to choose the right product first than fix a repair made with the wrong material afterwards.

Dual-Cure Polyester Resin
The kit includes a 4oz bottle of Solarez Dual-Cure Polyester Resin, giving you more flexibility than relying solely on a small emergency repair tube.

Combined with the included MEKP catalyst and the other repair materials, you've got the components needed for more substantial repair work.

That makes the kit particularly useful when travelling somewhere where sunlight, working conditions or the type of repair may vary.

Fiberfil & Microlite Filler
Not every surfboard ding needs exactly the same material.

The included Polyester Fiberfil is useful when you need a reinforced filling material, while the Microlite lightweight filler gives you another option for rebuilding damaged areas without unnecessarily loading the repair with heavy resin.

Having both is one of the big advantages of buying a proper repair kit rather than trying to solve every type of damage with the same tube of resin.

Fibreglass Included
The kit contains 325 square inches of 4oz fibreglass and rope.

This is what really separates the Pro Travel Kit from a basic ding repair product. If the laminate itself has been damaged, you've got material available to rebuild the fibreglass layer rather than simply filling the hole.

For anyone heading away with expensive boards, that additional capability is well worth having.

Tools Included Too
Solarez hasn't just supplied the repair materials and left you to find everything else.

You also get stainless steel scissors, different grades of sandpaper, masking tape, mixing equipment, a razor, spreader and applicator tip.

That's particularly important for travel. There's little point carrying resin and fibreglass halfway around the world only to discover you haven't got anything suitable to cut the cloth or finish the repair.

Great For Remote Surf Trips
This is where we'd really recommend the Pro Travel Kit.

If you're heading somewhere with a surf shop and professional ding repairer around the corner, getting a damaged board repaired isn't particularly difficult.

If you're on a boat trip, island, road trip or staying somewhere remote, a damaged board can become a much bigger problem.

Being able to make a solid repair yourself can mean the difference between surfing again and having one of your boards out of action for the rest of the trip.

Expert Advice
For normal surfing at home, we'd probably keep a small Solarez tube handy for everyday dings and use a professional repairer for major damage.

For a serious surf trip, we'd approach things differently.

If you're spending thousands getting somewhere, paying airline board fees and taking several expensive surfboards with you, carrying a proper repair kit is cheap insurance.

This is especially worthwhile if you're travelling somewhere remote or staying away for several weeks. You might never open it — but if an airline puts a decent ding through your favourite board on day one, you'll be very glad it's sitting in your luggage.

Q & A

Q: What type of surfboard is this repair kit for?
A: This version is designed for compatible polyester surfboards. For epoxy/EPS boards, we'd use an appropriate epoxy-compatible repair product instead.

Q: Is this just for small dings?
A: No. That's one of the main advantages over a basic tube of repair resin. The kit includes fillers, fibreglass and tools, giving you the materials for much more involved repairs.

Q: Does the kit include fibreglass?
A: Yes. It includes 325 square inches of 4oz fibreglass and rope.

Q: Do I need to buy repair tools separately?
A: Most of the essentials are already included, including stainless steel scissors, sandpaper, masking tape, mixing equipment, a razor, spreader and applicator tip.

Q: What's the difference between this and a normal Solarez tube?
A: A normal tube is ideal for straightforward quick ding repairs. The Pro Travel Kit gives you a much broader selection of materials and tools for rebuilding and finishing more substantial damage.

Q: Is this useful for a surf trip?
A: Absolutely. That's where we'd particularly recommend it, especially for longer trips, remote destinations and travelling with several boards.

Q: Does it include a cleaner?
A: Yes. The kit includes a 1oz bottle of Solarez Zerovoc plant-based non-flammable cleaner for cleanup.

Q: Does it contain MEKP catalyst?
A: Yes. MEKP catalyst is included as part of the repair kit.

Q: Can this replace a professional surfboard repair?
A: It gives you the materials needed to make substantial repairs, but the quality of the finished repair still depends on the damage and your repair skills. For serious structural damage we'd still recommend a professional repairer where one is available.

Q: Why take such a complete kit travelling?
A: Because a damaged board in a remote location can otherwise be out of action for days. If you're travelling a long way specifically to surf, being able to repair your own equipment is a very useful backup.
