Surfcheck

Time of Update: 29th jan

Todays conditions: Please follow the below guidance on surfing whist we are in lock down this is take from surf England, please take note of staying local as the Wittering's have been busy and because of this the police are frequently down enforcing fines due to a high number of complaints from local residents.

Tides: SOCIAL DISTANCE – Stay 2 meters (6 ft) apart from anyone not in your household SURF WITHIN YOUR LIMITS – If in doubt, don’t paddle out. Be honest with o. yourself about your capabilities and avoid taking unnecessary risks. If you see someone in trouble in the water, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. STAY LOCAL – Exercise is limited to once a day and only within your local area. On the Government advice it states “Stay local means stay in the village, town, or part of the city where you live.” (National Lockdown: Stay at Home, Gov UK, Click here, Access Date: 6/1/21). RESPECT THE COMMUNITY – Be mindful that many vulnerable people are having to self isolate and local facilities like car parks and toilets may be closed RESPECT OTHER SURFERS – Avoid crowding beaches and busy peaks. Be mindful that you do not always know what the surfer in the lineup near to you is currently going through – consider taking that pause between sets to ask ‘how are you?’ and share some stoke at this difficult time. PROMOTE GOOD SURF ETIQUETTE – Don’t snake or drop in, smile, be thankful we can still enjoy some waves for our exercise, be kind & surf safe.

Webcam troubleshooting

No feed?

Sometimes as with all technology our webcam does fall over. This can be for a variety of reasons and we do our best to keep issues to a minimum. The camera should work across all modern browsers and most mobile devices, if you do notice a problem this is likely down to a technical fault at our end. The best bet is to drop a comment on our Facebook wall and we will get on it as soon as possible. The camera is located on top of the chimney pot on a house adjacent to the beach and therefore access is difficult and sometimes dangerous in bad weather, however we will do our best to get it back up and running as soon as possible. Thanks for your understanding and enjoy the camera.

Not Seeing any Surf?

Firstly this is East Wittering, it’s often flat. However, throughout the winter months when we have some big storms the camera inevitably gets caked in salt, making it pretty difficult to see anything. We try to clean the camera as much as possible but if you notice it is particularly dirty please do write on our Facebook wall and we will get to it ASAP. We have been providing a surf camera at East Wittering beach for over 10 years completely free of charge and with no advertising or membership requirement so if we can't clean it straight away please be understanding, its a very slippery roof!
