1. Makes stripping old surf wax considerably quicker and easier than trying to pick it off bit by bit — scrape away the old build-up and get your deck ready for a fresh coat
2. Perfect for giving your surfboard a proper reset when the wax has become dirty, flattened or built up after months of adding layer after layer
3. Simple bit of surf kit that's worth having around — particularly when changing wax for different water temperatures or getting a board cleaned up ready to sell

Product Description
The Wax Fresh Surfboard Wax Remover/Scraper is a simple tool designed to make removing old surf wax from your board quicker, cleaner and considerably less painful.

Anyone who's surfed for a while knows how a surfboard deck eventually ends up. You start with a lovely fresh wax job, add a little more before each surf and several months later you're left with a thick, dirty layer of old wax that's probably holding half the beach in it.

That's when it's time to strip everything back and start again.

The Wax Fresh helps you scrape away old wax build-up from the deck, leaving the board ready for a completely fresh application of basecoat and surf wax.

It's particularly useful when you're changing between cold and warm water wax, cleaning up a second-hand board, preparing a board to sell or simply giving your everyday surfboard the occasional bit of maintenance it deserves.

For the easiest removal, we'd normally leave the board somewhere warm for a short while so the wax softens slightly before scraping. Alternatively, on a warm sunny day the sun will normally do most of the hard work for you. Just don't leave your surfboard cooking in excessive heat.

When Should You Remove Your Surf Wax?
There's no set rule. If your wax still feels grippy and isn't ridiculously built up, there's no need to strip your board every few sessions.

Eventually though, repeatedly adding fresh wax creates a thick layer that becomes dirty, smooth and uneven. At that point we'd rather strip the lot off and start again properly than keep adding more wax on top.

It's also worth removing everything if you're changing between significantly different water temperatures and want to start again with the correct basecoat and wax combination.

How To Remove Wax From A Surfboard
The job is considerably easier when the existing wax isn't rock hard.

Allow the wax to warm and soften slightly, then use the Wax Fresh scraper to work across the deck and lift the old wax away. Work methodically rather than trying to attack the whole board at once.

Once the bulk of the wax has been removed, clear away any remaining residue and you've got a clean deck ready for a fresh basecoat and top coat.

Don't use sharp metal scrapers, knives or anything else that could damage the board. A purpose-made surfboard wax scraper is a much better idea.

Expert Advice
Removing surf wax isn't exactly the most exciting part of surfing, but a completely fresh wax job feels so much better once you've done it.

If your board has got to the stage where the deck is covered in dirty grey lumps of wax and you're just adding another coat every time you surf, give it a reset.

Get the old stuff slightly warm, scrape it away, clean the deck and start again with a proper basecoat followed by the correct wax for your water temperature.

It's also something we'd always do when getting a second-hand surfboard. Strip off somebody else's old wax, check the deck properly for any damage and then put your own fresh wax job on it.

Q & A

Q: What is the Wax Fresh Surfboard Wax Remover/Scraper for?
A: It's designed to help scrape old surf wax and built-up wax from the deck of a surfboard before applying a fresh coat.

Q: When should I remove the wax from my surfboard?
A: We'd strip it when the wax has become heavily built up, dirty, smooth or no longer feels particularly effective. It's also useful when changing between different temperature waxes.

Q: Should I warm the wax before removing it?
A: Slightly softened wax is generally much easier to scrape away. Gentle warmth or a little time in the sun can help, but avoid exposing your surfboard to excessive heat.

Q: Can I use it when changing from cold-water to warm-water wax?
A: Yes. That's a perfect time to strip the old wax away and start again with the appropriate basecoat and wax for the new conditions.

Q: Is it useful for second-hand surfboards?
A: Definitely. Removing the previous owner's wax lets you properly inspect the deck and start again with your own fresh wax job.

Q: Should I remove all my surf wax every time I surf?
A: No. Normally you'll simply add a little fresh wax as required. A full strip and re-wax is more of an occasional maintenance job.

Q: Can I use a metal scraper instead?
A: We wouldn't. Sharp metal tools can potentially damage your surfboard, so we'd always use a tool specifically intended for removing surf wax.

Q: Do I need to apply new wax after using it?
A: Yes. Once you've stripped the old wax away, it's the perfect opportunity to apply a fresh basecoat and the correct surf wax for your local water temperature.
