impressive warmth from a lightweight 3/2
3. Neoprene-free natural rubber-based foam combines premium
performance with more considered materials
Suit Description
The Rip Curl E-Bomb 3/2 Zip Free Wetsuit is all about maximum
flexibility and unrestricted surfing. The E-Bomb has always been
one of Rip Curl's highest-performance wetsuits, and this latest
generation takes things even further with neoprene-free natural
rubber-based foam, E7 and E6 thermal linings and a completely Zip
Free entry.
At 3/2mm, this is a fantastic UK summer wetsuit and one we'd happily wear through late spring and well into autumn depending on water temperature and how much you feel the cold. It's light, incredibly stretchy and perfect for those sessions where you still need proper insulation but don't want to feel restricted by a thicker suit.
The combination of E7 and E6 Thermo Lining gives the E-Bomb considerably more warmth than you'd expect from such a flexible 3/2. The suit is thermally lined throughout, helping retain body heat while still keeping the lightweight, stretchy feel that makes the E-Bomb so good to surf in.
Rip Curl's Zip Free entry removes the restriction you'd normally get from a traditional chest or back zip. Combined with the super-stretch E7 materials through the upper body, there's very little resistance when you're paddling. Once you're surfing, it's the sort of suit you almost forget you're wearing.
Every seam is glued and blindstitched and backed internally with Rip Curl's Ultimate Tape. This helps reduce water penetration while reinforcing the seams without adding unnecessary stiffness or bulk.

When Would We Wear a 3/2?
For UK surfing, a 3/2 is your classic summer
wetsuit, but a premium thermally lined suit like the
E-Bomb gives you a much wider usable season than a basic 3/2. We'd
expect most surfers to use it through summer and into the warmer
parts of late spring and early autumn.
If you run warm, surf actively and don't tend to sit around for long periods, you can push a good 3/2 surprisingly far either side of summer. If you're someone who really feels the cold, we'd move into a 4/3 earlier rather than trying to stretch the season too far.
It's also a brilliant suit for travelling. If you're heading somewhere where the water is too cool for boardshorts but a 4/3 would be overkill, the combination of 3/2mm thickness and the E-Bomb's ridiculous flexibility is spot on.
Expert Advice
If you're buying a premium 3/2, this is exactly what we'd want from
it. At this thickness you don't need masses of bulky insulation —
you want something that takes the chill off while letting you surf
as freely as possible. That's where the E-Bomb really delivers.
The Zip Free entry and E7 stretch make a noticeable difference through the shoulders. If you're surfing for a couple of hours and doing loads of paddling, having less resistance with every stroke really does matter. It's particularly good for performance surfing where you don't want your wetsuit fighting against you.
What makes this version particularly impressive is that it's not simply a super-flexible suit. Rip Curl have fully thermally lined it and internally taped every seam, so you're still getting proper warmth and construction from what feels like an extremely lightweight wetsuit.
For UK summer surfing, this is about as nice a wetsuit as you could ask for. Light, warm for its thickness and ridiculously stretchy — if you hate feeling like you're wearing a wetsuit, the E-Bomb should be very high on your list.
Q & A
Q: Is the Rip Curl E-Bomb 3/2 suitable for UK summer
surfing?
A: Yes — it's an ideal premium UK summer wetsuit. The full thermal
lining also helps extend its use into warmer late-spring and
early-autumn conditions.
Q: What's the difference between the E-Bomb 3/2 and
4/3?
A: The 3/2 is lighter and more flexible and is primarily aimed at
warmer water. The 4/3 gives you additional insulation for spring,
autumn and colder conditions. If warmth isn't an issue, the 3/2
feels incredible to surf in.
Q: Is this wetsuit really neoprene free?
A: Yes. This generation uses natural rubber-based foam rather than
traditional neoprene, including FSC Certified natural rubber
alongside other bio-based materials.
Q: Is the E-Bomb designed more for warmth or
flexibility?
A: Flexibility and performance are the E-Bomb's biggest strengths.
However, this version is thermally lined throughout and fully
internally taped, so you're getting impressive warmth for a
performance-focused 3/2.
Q: Is a Zip Free wetsuit hard to get on?
A: It can take a little more technique than a back zip the first
few times, but the extremely stretchy construction makes it
surprisingly easy once you're used to it. The benefit is much less
restriction across your shoulders and upper body.
Q: What are the E7 and E6 Thermo Linings?
A: They're Rip Curl's high-stretch thermal materials, designed to
add warmth without making the wetsuit feel heavy or restrictive. E7
offers even greater stretch than E6 and is used where performance
and movement matter most.
Q: Are all the seams internally taped?
A: Yes — the E-Bomb uses 100% Ultimate internal seam tape, helping
improve durability and reduce water penetration while retaining
excellent stretch.
Q: Can I use a 3/2 in winter?
A: We wouldn't recommend it for normal UK winter surfing. Even
though the E-Bomb is exceptionally good for a 3/2, we'd move into a
quality 4/3 or 5/4 as the water gets properly cold.
Q: Who would you recommend the E-Bomb 3/2
to?
A: Anyone who surfs regularly and puts flexibility high on their
list. If you're doing lots of paddling, performance surfing or
simply hate the restrictive feeling of cheaper wetsuits, you'll
really notice the difference.
