Top 3 Reasons we love this
1. Reinforced stainless-steel cables make these virtually
impossible to cut
2. Locks your boards or kayak to the roof so you can leave the car
stress-free
3. Different lengths mean you can choose the perfect strap for any
setup — from a single surfboard to a stacked pile of kayaks
Product Description
With KanuLock straps your board, kayak or SUP can’t be slid out or
sliced free — these straps are reinforced with stainless-steel
cables along each edge, making them resistant to knives and
virtually impossible to cut. They’re also easy to use, quiet on the
motorway, and designed to lock directly to your roof rack so your
kit stays exactly where you left it. Whether you’re grabbing food
after a surf or leaving your gear on the car while you explore,
KanuLock straps offer peace of mind that regular tie-downs simply
can’t.
Available in four lengths — 2.5m, 3.3m, 4m and 5.4m — each size uses a different coloured buckle for easy identification. The 3.3m option is perfect for most surfboards, paddleboards and single kayaks, while the longer 4m and 5.4m versions are ideal for canoes, big SUPs or stacking multiple boards. The stainless-steel reinforcement runs up both sides of the webbing, giving strength without adding bulk, and the buckle locks using a simple key system. Once locked, the strap can’t be loosened or removed without the key — making opportunistic theft almost impossible.
Using them couldn’t be easier: feed the strap through the buckle like a normal tie-down, tension it, close the locking clasp and turn the key. That’s it — your gear is locked to the roof rack and secured against both movement and theft.
Which Length Should You Choose?
• 2.5m — Ideal for shortboards, small single
surfboards, bodyboards or securing one small craft
• 3.3m — Best for most kayaks, SUPs, windsurf
boards, longboards and day-to-day surf setups
• 4m — Great for canoes, large touring kayaks, big
SUPs or multiple surfboards stacked together
• 5.4m — Perfect for wide canoes, very large SUPs
or carrying several kayaks/boards at once; best for van roofs or
wide bar setups
As a general rule: If you’re unsure, size up. Extra strap can be tied off easily, but short straps can’t stretch!

Expert Advice
If you regularly leave boards on the car while grabbing food or
loading up for a second session, KanuLock straps are a lifesaver.
Standard tie-downs can be cut in seconds, but the stainless-steel
reinforcement in these makes theft extremely difficult — thieves
simply move on. The locking buckle is easy to use even with cold
hands, and the straps make far less wind noise, especially on
longer motorway runs. If you travel with boards on the roof even a
few times a year, these are one of the best security upgrades you
can buy.
Q & A
Q: Can someone still slide the board out of the
straps?
A: No — the stainless-steel cables run the length of the straps,
preventing them from being pried apart or loosened without the
key.
Q: Can these really not be cut?
A: They can’t be cut with a knife or blade. The internal steel
cables make it extremely difficult for opportunistic thieves who
typically rely on quick cuts.
Q: Do they work with any roof rack?
A: Yes — they work with standard bars, aero bars and most
factory-fitted roof rack systems.
Q: Which length should I buy for a single longboard or
SUP?
A: The 3.3m straps suit most SUPs and longboards, but if your board
is particularly wide or thick, go for the 4m length.
Q: Can I secure multiple surfboards?
A: Yes — the 4m and 5.4m straps are ideal for stacking a few boards
together or tying down larger loads.
Q: Are they noisy at speed?
A: Much quieter than standard nylon tie-downs. The materials and
shape dramatically reduce wind flutter.
Q: Do they rust?
A: No — the internal stainless-steel cables resist corrosion, even
when regularly exposed to salt water.
Q: Are they safe for painted boards?
A: Yes — the straps are soft and wide enough to avoid pressure
dents. Just ensure you use correct tension, as with any tie-down
system.
Q: What comes in the pack?
A: You get a pair of lockable straps, two keys and a storage bag —
everything you need to secure your gear immediately.
