The O'Neill Hybrid Long Sleeve Tee is one of our favourite styles of top for warm-water surfing, travelling and long days around the beach. It combines the relaxed look and feel of a normal long sleeve tee with the performance and sun protection you'd expect from proper watersports clothing.

Most importantly, this isn't simply a casual O'Neill T-shirt. The Hybrid is designed to be worn in and around the water, making it ideal for surfing, SUP, swimming, kayaking, sailing or pretty much any activity where you're constantly getting wet.

The big advantage of this long sleeve version is coverage. With UPF 50+ sun protection and fabric covering your torso and arms, it's a fantastic option when you're spending hours exposed to strong sunshine.

The English Evening colourway is essentially a really wearable dark navy, so it looks much more like a normal O'Neill long sleeve top than brightly coloured technical watersports kit.

UPF 50+ Sun Protection
For us, this is the main reason to buy the Hybrid Long Sleeve Tee.

UPF 50+ is an excellent level of fabric sun protection, helping block the vast majority of UV radiation from reaching the skin covered by the garment.

Add in the long sleeves and you've got far more coverage than you'd get from a short sleeve surf tee. That's brilliant for long surf sessions where your shoulders, back and arms can otherwise be exposed to the sun for hours at a time.

You'll still need appropriate sun protection on exposed areas such as your face, neck and hands, but covering more skin with a UPF-rated garment makes managing sun exposure considerably easier.

What Does 'Hybrid' Mean?
The whole point of O'Neill's Hybrid concept is that the top works both in the water and as something you'd happily wear around the beach afterwards.

A conventional rash vest is brilliant in the water, but its very tight fit can look and feel a bit technical once you're out. A normal cotton long sleeve tee looks great on the beach but becomes heavy and uncomfortable once it's soaked.

The Hybrid sits nicely between the two. You get a relaxed surf-tee style with fabric designed around watersports use.

If you're wearing something underneath a wetsuit, we'd generally choose a traditional close-fitting rash vest. The tight fit keeps excess material out of the way and makes layering much easier.
