surfing when you want maximum freedom of movement

giving loads of stretch through the upper body
3. Fully thermally lined and internally taped, giving you
noticeably more warmth than you'd expect from such a lightweight

Suit Description
The Rip Curl E-Bomb 3/2 Chest Zip Wetsuit is exactly what we want
from a premium summer wetsuit — light, ridiculously flexible and
warm enough to give you a long season in UK waters. It takes the
performance-focused E-Bomb construction and combines it with a
secure chest-zip entry, making it a brilliant choice if you want
maximum stretch but prefer a conventional closure over Rip Curl's
Zip Free system.
At 3/2mm, this is primarily a UK summer wetsuit, but the quality of the construction means you can get considerably more use from it than a basic summer suit. The combination of E7 and E6 Thermo Lining adds warmth without making the wetsuit feel bulky, making it ideal for summer, warmer late-spring sessions and into early autumn depending on how much you feel the cold.
Flexibility is where the E-Bomb really earns its reputation. The high-stretch materials move incredibly easily through the shoulders and arms, reducing resistance with every paddle stroke. On longer sessions this makes a genuine difference — particularly if you're surfing regularly or riding performance boards where you don't want your wetsuit restricting movement.
The Chest Zip entry keeps the opening much smaller than a traditional back-zip suit, helping reduce flushing while remaining relatively straightforward to get in and out of. It's a great compromise for surfers who love the idea of the E-Bomb's performance but don't necessarily want to go completely Zip Free.
Glued and Blindstitched seams are backed internally with Rip Curl's Ultimate Tape throughout the suit, helping reduce water penetration while reinforcing the seams. Combined with the full thermal lining, it makes this an impressively warm and durable 3/2 without sacrificing the lightweight E-Bomb feel.

When Would We Wear a 3/2?
For UK surfing, we'd consider a 3/2 your main summer
wetsuit. It's what we'd reach for once the water has
warmed up and a 4/3 starts feeling unnecessarily hot and
restrictive.
Because the E-Bomb is fully thermally lined and has internally taped GBS seams, it can cover a wider temperature range than a basic flatlocked 3/2. For many surfers it'll work from late spring through summer and into the warmer part of autumn.
If you run warm and you're actively surfing rather than spending lots of time sitting around, you may be surprised how long you can stay in a good 3/2. If you're someone who really feels the cold, move into your 4/3 earlier — being freezing isn't worth the extra flexibility.
It's also a brilliant travel wetsuit for destinations where boardshorts aren't quite enough but a 4/3 would be far too much.
Expert Advice
A good 3/2 should almost disappear when you're surfing, and that's
exactly what the E-Bomb does. At this thickness you don't need a
wetsuit packed with bulky insulation — you want enough warmth to
keep the chill off while retaining as much freedom as possible.
The E-Bomb's E7 stretch is particularly noticeable when you're paddling. There's very little resistance through the shoulders, which is one of those things that's difficult to appreciate until you've worn a genuinely stretchy wetsuit.
We also really like the Chest Zip version for everyday use. Compared with the Zip Free E-Bomb, it's a little more straightforward to get in and out of and gives you a really positive, secure closure. You sacrifice a tiny amount of that completely unrestricted Zip Free feeling, but we're talking about an exceptionally flexible wetsuit either way.
If you're surfing regularly throughout the UK summer and want a 3/2 that feels noticeably better than an entry-level wetsuit, this is exactly the sort of suit we'd spend the extra money on.
Q & A
Q: Is the Rip Curl E-Bomb 3/2 suitable for UK summer
surfing?
A: Yes — it's an ideal premium UK summer wetsuit. The thermal
lining and taped GBS construction also help extend its use into
warmer late-spring and early-autumn conditions.
Q: What's the difference between the Chest Zip and Zip
Free E-Bomb?
A: The Zip Free version removes the zip completely to maximise
flexibility. The Chest Zip is slightly easier to get in and out of
and provides a very secure closure while still offering exceptional
freedom of movement.
Q: Which would you choose — Chest Zip or Zip
Free?
A: If absolute maximum flexibility is your priority, we'd go Zip
Free. If you want almost all of that flexibility with easier entry
and a more conventional closure, we'd choose the Chest Zip.
Q: Is a 3/2 warm enough for spring and
autumn?
A: It can be, particularly with a premium thermally lined suit like
the E-Bomb. Exactly when you'll need to move into a 4/3 depends on
water temperature, session length and how much you personally feel
the cold.
Q: Is this wetsuit neoprene free?
A: Yes. This generation uses natural rubber-based foam rather than
traditional neoprene, including FSC Certified natural rubber
alongside other bio-based materials.
Q: Is it warmer than a basic 3/2 wetsuit?
A: Yes. The E7 and E6 thermal materials, GBS seams and 100%
internal seam taping give it considerably better heat retention
than a basic flatlocked summer wetsuit.
Q: Are all the seams internally taped?
A: Yes — the E-Bomb uses 100% Ultimate internal seam tape,
reinforcing the GBS construction while maintaining the stretch that
makes the suit so good.
Q: Should I buy the 3/2 or 4/3?
A: For UK summer and maximum flexibility, go 3/2. If you want
something for spring and autumn with greater cold-water capability,
the 4/3 is the better option. A lot of regular UK surfers will
eventually own both.
Q: Is the E-Bomb worth spending more on than an
entry-level 3/2?
A: If you're surfing regularly, we'd say yes. A cheaper 3/2 will
keep you covered, but the difference in stretch, paddling freedom,
warmth and overall comfort becomes very noticeable when you're
spending hours in the water.
Q: Who would you recommend this wetsuit to?
A: Regular surfers who want a premium summer suit with maximum
flexibility but prefer the secure, straightforward feel of a
chest-zip entry.
