Top 3 Reasons We Love This
1. Just the right balance of warmth and dexterity for cool-water
sessions
2. Super grippy palm makes a real difference for paddling and board
control
3. Lightweight, flexible feel — ideal if you hate bulky winter
gloves
Product Description
The Patagonia R2 Yulex Wetsuit Gloves are designed for surfers and
water users who need a bit of extra warmth without sacrificing feel
or movement. Made from 2mm Yulex natural rubber, they’re perfect
for cool conditions where bare hands are just a bit too cold, but
full winter gloves would be overkill.
These gloves are all about dexterity. The articulated panel design allows your hands to move naturally, while the silicone 3D palm print delivers excellent grip for paddling, duck diving and holding onto your board. Fully seam sealed on the outside, with triple-glued and blindstitched seams, they do a great job of keeping water out for a glove of this thickness.
A snug microgasket at the wrist helps prevent flushing, and the lightweight construction means your hands won’t feel weighed down or clumsy in the water. Ideal for spring and autumn surf sessions, open-water swimming, paddling and a wide range of watersports, the R2 gloves are a brilliant all-rounder. As with all Patagonia wetsuit accessories, they’re made with recycled materials and produced in a Fair Trade Certified factory.

Expert Advice
These are ideal if you want to keep surfing through spring and
autumn without losing all feel in your hands. They’re warm enough
to take the edge off chilly water but still flexible enough to
paddle properly — something thicker gloves really struggle with. We
also see plenty of open-water swimmers and paddlers using these
when the water’s cool but not properly cold. If you want warmth
without the “claw hand” feeling, these are spot on.
Q & A
Q: What conditions are these best for?
A: They’re ideal for cool-water conditions, typically around
13°–16°C — perfect for UK spring, autumn and cooler summer
days.
Q: Are these warm enough for winter?
A: Not for most people. For winter surfing you’d usually want a
thicker glove like an R3, R4 or mitt-style option.
Q: Do they restrict movement when paddling?
A: No — that’s one of their biggest strengths. The articulated
design and 2mm thickness keep them flexible and comfortable.
Q: How good is the grip?
A: Excellent. The silicone 3D palm print gives noticeable grip on
your board, even when wet.
Q: Do they let much water in?
A: Very little for a 2mm glove. The external seam sealing and
microgasket wrist help keep flushing to a minimum.
Q: Are they suitable for swimming?
A: Yes — they’re a popular choice for open-water swimmers who want
light warmth without bulky gloves.
Q: Are these environmentally friendly?
A: Yes — they’re made with FSC®-certified Yulex natural rubber,
recycled linings and water-based glues, and produced in a Fair
Trade Certified factory.
Q: Who are these best for?
A: Surfers, swimmers and paddlers who want light warmth and maximum
hand movement in cool conditions.
