Founded in 1969 by Doug Warbrick and Brian Singer they decided to start a small surf company in Torquay, operating from garages and tool sheds to provide locals with surfboards and Wetsuits. In 1970 they noticed the production of surfboards was at an all time high, while on the other hand wetsuit manufacturers were scarce. The only real demand for wetsuits at the time being divers. Following this they took over an old house in Torquay and purchased a few pre World War II sewing machines. They got together a team of locals and began production of Ripcurl Wetsuits. This dedication and commitment to providing quality wetsuits is still the framework and ethos behind Rip Curl wetsuits.
