Recently landed at Shore HQ is O’neill’s latest Area52 development, the new Gooru 3mm Split-Toe Boot and Glove. Advancements in design has led to building a boot and glove with a fully sealed and watertight exterior coating, achieved by being dipped in Liquid Rubber. The result is a seam-free exterior, eliminating uncomfortable and bulky seams that makes for a watertight and anatomically precise fitting wetsuit accessory range.
We are yet to hit the water with the Gooru Boots and Gloves (it is ‘summer’ afterall!), but having passed these products around the office, our first impressions are positive to say the least. On trying on both the Gloves and Boots we each commented on how lightweight and unrestricted movement seems (bearing in mind this is just in our rather warm and sticky office), before even taking to the water and they already feel great. They boast a heap of gooey flex, a snug fit and barely feel like you are wearing a 3mm glove or boot at all.
O’neill are certainly on to something with this design. We are now welcoming the arrival of some Autumn swells and looking forward to putting the Gooru accessory range through its paces. All things considered, it looks like this design could seriously benefit the rider looking for a simple and stripped back glove or boot for maximum feedback to improve performance. At 3mm they are perfect for when the cold starts setting in.
Due to the amount of stretch, O’neill recommends buying the Gooru gloves a size smaller than your conventional gloves. It is worth noting that the glove is not as shiny as in the product photograph when dry, the rubber looks more like a conventional single lined neoprene product.
